A day in the life - Megan (Receiver in Brighton)About you—what’s your name and your background?
My name is Megan. My background is very much photography related, it’s something I've been interested in since I was young. And it developed into something I wanted to pursue further, so I went on to study photography at both college and then university. I’m originally from a small town, near Brighton, called Seaford. Although I've moved away many times, I always seem to come back.
Can you summarise your role here at MPB?
My role here at MPB is as a receiver. As receivers, we are responsible for opening and checking in all buy transactions. It then gets triaged into high value, part exchange and cash purchase transactions. Then they are given to the product specialists to be tested and thoroughly checked before purchasing.
What does your average weekday involve?
My average weekday involves unloading between 200–300 parcels sent in by customers from the delivery van, and then going through each one and sorting into what it relates to whether that be cash purchase, high value or a part exchange. From there, we work our way through each section, unpacking them, checking and sorting into the correct totes to give to the product specialists.
What’s your favourite part of your role?
My favourite part of my role is getting to look at all the equipment that gets sent in to us. I’m really interested in all the different kinds of equipment that photography has to offer, so getting to look at it all day and sort through it all makes my day really interesting.
What do you find most challenging?
The only aspect in my line of work that I find challenging is sorting out any mistakes that come through with the deliveries, as mistakes can be made due to human error. So, it’s our job to make sure everything is included and there with what they intended to send us. And to make sure that the whole process runs as smoothly as possible.
If your coworkers could do something to make your day, what would it be?
A highlight to anyone's day in the warehouse is on the days our resident dog called Monkey comes in. Monkey is this adorable French Bulldog who is constantly running and playing around the warehouse. So, any day involving him makes my day.
